First cruise? You've probably already seen seventeen different packing lists — most of them telling you to bring a door organizer and a "formal gown just in case." Let's be real.
1. Magnetic Hooks (Seriously)
Cruise cabin walls are metal. Magnet hooks turn your tiny cabin into actual storage. Get 10–15 strong ones from Amazon. This is the single best packing tip that actually changes your cabin experience.
2. A Refillable Water Bottle
The ship provides water, but hauling cups around gets old. Bring a 32oz Hydro Flask or similar. You'll thank yourself on beach days.
3. Motion Sickness Bands
Even if you've never been seasick, the first night at sea can surprise you. Sea-Bands are $10 and take up zero space. Insurance policy.
4. Reef-Safe Sunscreen
Most Caribbean ports require reef-safe only. Don't get confiscated at Cozumel. Check the label — no oxybenzone or octinoxate.
5. Power Strip (No Surge Protectors)
Cruise cabins have 1–2 outlets. Bring a non-surge power strip. Surge protectors are banned on most ships for fire safety reasons.
6. Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer
Not for shoes — for everything else. Sunscreen, lanyards, cards, medicine, snacks. Hang it on your bathroom door.
7. Lanyards for Your Cruise Cards
You will use your cruise card 50 times a day. A lanyard keeps you from losing your mind. Buy two, one for backup.
8. Walkie Talkies
Ships kill cell service and WiFi packages are expensive. $30 walkie talkies work perfectly for finding your people on a 18-deck ship.
9. Collapsible Tote Bag
For port days. It folds flat, holds beach gear, and doesn't scream "tourist" the way a massive backpack does.
10. A Small First Aid Kit
Ships have medical centers, but at $250/visit. Bring bandages, Advil, antacids, and allergy medicine. Basic prevention saves real money.
Happy sailing. See you on Deck 10.
